What This "Cloud" Really Is ? ( Part 1 of 2)

Share Post:

As part of a joke cloud computing is not what the phrase suggests that you go to hill station and start using your laptop sitting inside a cloud.
By Siddique Hassan. Part 1 of 2.
It's just a phrase which interprets different sort of computing concept that includes a large number of computers interconnected or simply connected through a real-time network (like Internet).

This image describes the cloud computing to very extent.
Some people consider it as a synonym for what the concept of distributed computing is over some network.
Cloud computing is one of the most growing business in the field of I.T with companies such as Google, Amazon etc.
The concept of cloud computing is said to be as old as the time when the dead terminals of mainframes were used for communication purpose.
Afterwards in 80's and 90's telecommunication companies started to work in this field/
Many companies researched and worked with this concept of cloud computing but Amazon Web Service is considered to be the pioneer in providing cloud firstly to its employees and then a step forward to external users all around the world.
For just a touch we will discuss what its basics are:
Clouds are of three types namely Internal or Private cloud, External or Public cloud and the composition of both internal and external cloud i.e. Hybrid cloud.
Then the cloud has three different layers that are distinct on the basis of services for which they are used for. The first one is SaaS (Software as a Service), 2nd is PaaS (Platform as a Service) and the 3rd and last one is IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service).
Coming to significance of cloud computing, it's one of the best ways to save your money and time as well when you are an individual customer or a small company. You don't have buy a high speed costly computer system. You don't even need to buy a full software when you only need one or two of it features. And you don't even have to update your software or to call a technician.
What you need is to choose a plan of your desire and it's companies' responsibility to provide you all services online.
When you chose cloud computing you are making yourself independent of devices i.e. your office computer and the limit of data you can store. "All is well" in your cloud.
There are some disadvantages too, but not so serious that may hinder some small company from using a cloud services. One most common argument is that you are hostage of your cloud vendor in terms of data security.
Why you need to use this ( great) feature of cloud computing you must have an Internet connection without which you can't use this facility. Using cloud there is a possibility that you get limited features for a number of reasons but what I would suggest is that if you want to save both, your money and time, you must switch to this amazing technology.
This is what you need to do.
In the next article we'll discuss different types and layers of cloud along some advantages and disadvantages.
